Los Angeles Faces Record-Breaking High Temperatures Only Days Following Major Winter Weather.

In the wake of significant rainfall that led to inundation across parts of the city, Los Angeles is now grappling with unusually hot conditions for the end of February.

Record-Shattering Heat

During the day Friday, the temperature reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, per data from weather officials. This easily surpasses the prior high for February 27th, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was established in the previous year.

"Exceptionally warm weather" were labeled on forecast maps for the region.

Public Health Alerts

Forecasters issued a warning that Friday's weather posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for those at risk. Their advice suggested:

  • Keeping well-hydrated.
  • Limiting outdoor activities during the afternoon hours of the day.
  • Ensuring you do not leave children or pets unattended in a hot car.

A Dramatic Weather Swing

This sudden spike in heat arrives just after a powerful storm system that battered the region recently. That event delivered high winds, thunderstorms, and significant snowfall to mountainous regions, leading to flash flood warnings for millions residents.

Unfortunately, the severe weather also caused a large avalanche in the Tahoe area, which left nine people dead from.

Temperatures Easing

The outlook suggests some relief is coming. Readings were expected to fall to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in downtown LA by Friday night.

Additional areas that reached the 90-degree mark included Long Beach, Burbank, and Woodland Hills. Meanwhile, Westwood, Camarillo, Santa Maria, and Oxnard were forecast to experience the high eighties.

Over Saturday and Sunday, downtown Los Angeles can expect weather in the eighties, with a further cooldown on tap for the start of March.
