The speculation around the recent awards show was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
