The speculation surrounding The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team might be designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
