LA Experiences Record-Breaking Heat Just Days Following Major Winter Weather.
In the wake of torrential rains that resulted in floodwaters across parts of the city, LA is now confronting abnormally high conditions for this time of year.
All-Time High Readings
During the day Friday, the temperature reached ninety-one degrees Fahrenheit in central LA, as reported by meteorologists. This easily surpasses the old record for February 27th, which was 88°F (31°C) and was recorded in the previous year.
"Unusually high temperatures" were highlighted on official graphics for the region.
Public Health Advisories
The weather service stated that Friday's weather posed an "elevated risk for heat illness" for those at risk. Their recommendations included:
- Staying hydrated.
- Reducing outdoor activities during the peak heat of the day.
- Not leaving kids or animals unattended in a car.
A Sharp Weather Swing
This sudden spike in heat arrives just after a massive storm system that pummeled the state last week. That system brought thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy snow to higher elevations, causing evacuation orders for countless residents.
Sadly, the conditions also resulted in a deadly avalanche in the Lake Tahoe area, which resulted in nine fatalities.
Temperatures Easing
Forecasters predict cooler conditions will arrive. Temperatures were predicted to fall to around sixty-one degrees Fahrenheit in the city by overnight.
Additional areas that reached ninety degrees were Woodland Hills, Long Beach, and Burbank. Elsewhere, Oxnard, Westwood, Camarillo, and Santa Maria were projected to experience the high 80s.
In the coming days, central LA can expect temperatures in the 80s, with mid-70s temperatures on tap for the week ahead.
